Netherlands striker Bas Dost retires from international football

Prolific Sporting striker Bas Dost has announced his retirement from international football after just 18 caps for the Netherlands.

Dost, just 28, has scored 193 goals in 364 appearances in his professional career, nfl wholesale jerseys but has netted just once for his country since making his debut in March of 2015.

He watched from the bench in the Netherlands’ 3-0 friendly victory over Portugal last month but said on Tuesday he’d contemplated quitting the national team for quite a while.

“I have suppressed the feeling that I wanted to stop with [international football] for a long time,” Dost said.

“The fact that I felt really rotten for a week [after the last international break] was the deciding factor.176

“It did not go well with Netherlands for whatever reason. I have come to the moment when I say ‘no more.’ It just has not worked.”

Dutch manager Ronald Koeman said of Dost’s retirement: “Bas told me personally — I think that was good of him. I’m sorry he is retiring.

“I certainly saw a role for him with Netherlands. nfl jerseys from china When I started as the national team coach, I said that I would like to use the first four international matches to try out players and playing methods so, in that sense, much is still open.

“But I respect the decision he has made, also because I understand that he has had this feeling for some time.”

Central Coast Mariners axe seven players after woeful A-League season

A-League wooden spooners nfl jerseys china Central Coast are set for a major recruiting drive after axing seven players, including New Zealand international Storm Roux.

Roux, who played 105 games with the Mariners in four injury-hit years, has been released from the final year of his contract to pursue his career elsewhere.

Matchday regulars Roux, Liam Rose, Blake Powell and Peter Skapetis, as well as fringe players Jacob Poscoliero and Josh Bingham, have also been released.

Goalkeeper Tom Glover, who joined on a one-year loan deal from Premier League side Tottenham, has also ended his time at the Mariners.

Glover played four games for the A-League side.175

Just 14 players now remain on the Mariners’ books — meaning the exodus comprised of exactly one third of the wooden spooners’ squad.

Central Coast finished at the bottom nfl wholesale jerseys of the ladder with four wins from 27 starts.

Alex Cobb’s debut turns into disappointment (O’s lose 10-3)

Alex Cobb can’t be judged on one start. Signing him as a free agent can’t be deemed a colossal failure after one inning. The same patience required to prepare him for today’s debut with the Orioles is needed to grade him.

He didn’t pass today. nfl jerseys from china There will be plenty of other tests.

The first four Red Sox batters reached against Cobb this afternoon and he allowed three runs and threw 28 pitches before retreating to the visiting dugout. The storms forecast for the next two days arrived early without the precipitation.

Cobb lasted only 3 2/3 innings and was charged with seven earned runs (eight total) and 10 hits while the Orioles fell behind the Red Sox 8-0 at Fenway Park.

Pedro álvarez’s two-run homer off Hector Velázquez with two outs in the fifth reduced the lead to 8-2.

Hanley Ramirez and J.D. Martinez homered off Cobb, who allowed his most runs since giving up eight to the Astros over three innings on July 31, 2017 while pitching for the Rays. He made only seven more starts due to a toe injury that forced him on the disabled list.

The Orioles didn’t sign Cobb until March 21 and they chose a deliberate pace for his arrival, with simulated and extended spring training games sprinkled among bullpen sessions. They got him up to six innings and 93 pitches.

Getting him through the first today was a challenge.

Mookie Betts drew a six-pitch walk to lead off the inning and he scored official nfl jerseys cheap on Andrew Benintendi’s double off the Green Monster. Benintendi moved to third on Manny Machado’s error on the relay throw and he trotted home on Ramirez’s shot over the famed wall.

Martinez singled before Cobb finally registered his first outs of the day on a 4-3 double play grounder from Rafael Devers. Jackie Bradley Jr. singled to center field, a line drive up the middle that forced Cobb to duck while raising his glove, and Sandy Leon flied out on the next pitch.

Orioles activate Cobb, place Schoop on DL with oblique injury

In their 14th game of the season, the Orioles finally get Alex Cobb into the starting rotation. The biggest free agent pitching acquisition of the non-season came nfl wholesale jerseys late enough into spring training that there was still a need for Cobb to get himself all the way into game shape as the regular season started. Now he’s ready, and after the Chris Tillman disaster last night, the Orioles need him.

To make room for Cobb on the active roster, the Orioles needed to remove someone for the time being. That’s turned out to be second baseman Jonathan Schoop, who exited Friday night’s loss after feeling what was at the time just called a “twinge” while striking out swinging in the seventh inning. All the post-game words about getting him out as a precaution to keep it from getting worse aren’t keeping him from the disabled list.163

The specific injury is to his right oblique, and after getting MRI results about that oblique, the Orioles chose to put Schoop on the DL. How long Schoop is expected to miss is not immediately clear, and the track record of the Orioles first estimates for missed time due to injury is not the greatest anyway, so it could be longer than whatever they say.

What’s certain for now is that there will be at least ten days with an infield alignment different than you probably spent spring training contemplating. Saturday’s lineup has Tim Beckham at second base, with Danny Valencia at third base and utility man Engelb Vielma still on the bench.

Can the O’s ride out a week and a half with an alignment like that? Maybe. If it ends up stretching on to a month, like the oblique injury suffered by Chris Davis last June, nfl jerseys from china they may need to think about other arrangements. Though Schoop has only been batting .230/.266/.344 to start the season, his bat will still be missed in the lineup, especially if his replacement most nights is the light-hitting Vielma.

If you want to look at the silver lining, the Orioles don’t have to deplete the bullpen in order to activate Cobb. I know, it’s not much of a silver lining.

Blackhawks lose the benefit of the doubt with playoff-less season

As we begin to sift through the ashes of the five-alarm fire that was the Chicago Blackhawks 2017-18 season, it feels like a proverbial line has been crossed by this organization.152

Since 2010, whenever this Blackhawks team has needed a Herculean effort to get out of a massive hole, it’s delivered.

You know all the greatest hits and deepest cuts of this album by now: forcing a Game 7 against the top-seeded Vancouver Canucks, reebok nfl jerseys a pair of overtime victories against the then-Phoenix Coyotes, rallying from a 3-1 deficit against the Detroit Red Wings, overcoming a 2-1 deficit to the Boston Bruins, pushing the Los Angeles Kings into overtime of Game 7 before a horrific bounce ended it all, erasing a 3-2 deficit to the Anaheim Ducks and countless regular season comebacks that are on the B-side.

Every time the Blackhawks got down, they told us not to worry. And then they’d come back. It was like clockwork. It’s one of the biggest parts of what’s made this last decade so enjoyable.

But in the last three seasons, that hasn’t happened. Chicago’s fallen behind in some manner, told everyone it was OK, but then failed to overcome that particular hurdle.

And after missing the playoffs this season, it’s hard to carry that same faith into the upcoming NHL seasons.

There are still plenty of reasons to be optimistic about Chicago’s 2018-19 season. There are a slew of young players who fared authentic jerseys  Patrick Kane is still one of the league’s best offensive weapons. And with six months before the regular season begins, Crawford has plenty of time to recover from whatever it is that’s ailed him since Christmas.

But if we get to the holiday season in 2018 and this team is again on the outside of the playoff picture, it won’t be easy to believe that everything is going to be fine, no matter how many times the players say it.

With Blackhawks core fading, Alex DeBrincat, Nick Schmaltz & Co. need to step up

“I let him win,” the 29-year-old Kane joked. “I was playing with [Patrick Sharp] the past couple of games, so I passed it every time. I give [DeBrincat] credit. official nfl jerseys cheap He had a great season and did his job. And he should be proud of himself.”

Indeed he should. DeBrincat’s 28 goals this season marked the first time a player other than a three-time Stanley Cup winner has led the Hawks in goals since the vaunted core became a thing in 2009-10. That’s a modest distinction in the worst Hawks season of the Joel Quenneville era, but still the first tangible sign that a new era beckons. It’s about time the next generation takes a bigger step toward leading the Hawks to their next serious Cup contention instead of playing a supporting role.

With the glorious core fading — only Patrick Kane had an in-his-prime season in 2017-18 — the Hawks still have hope that Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook can have rejuvenated seasons in 2018-19 and Corey Crawford returns in top form. But unless they’re chugging from the Fountain of Youth, it’ll be up to DeBrincat, Nick Schmaltz (21 goals, 52 points), Vinnie Hinostroza (seven goals, 25 points in 50 games) reebok nfl jerseys and other relative newcomers — including defensemen Connor Murphy, Jan Rutta, Erik Gustafsson and Jordan Oesterle — to take a giant leap toward leading roles on and off the ice. The Hawks no longer can afford to be a team with a veteran core supported by a group of deferential youngsters.

It will be a challenge, though. The leadership of the core group that became a hallmark of the three-Cup run is so strong that it can be an intimidating factor for the next group. When Toews became the third-youngest captain in NHL history at 20 in 2008, the longest-tenured Hawks were Jim Vandermeer (three-plus seasons) and Keith, Seabrook, Sharp and Rene Bourque (three seasons) — none of whom had won any Cups. Even with recent departures, players such as DeBrincat, Schmaltz and Hinostroza still are looking up at Keith, Seabrook, Toews, Kane and two-Cup winners Crawford and Brandon Saad.

“Those older guys you look up to so much,” Schmaltz said. “You don’t want to — I don’t want to say steal their show — but you respect those guys so much that they’ve done such a good job of leading and taking care of the young guys. But at a certain point, the younger guys coming up need to take a step in the leadership role. Whether it’s by leading with your play or saying a few things on the bench or in the locker room. As a young group, we can definitely step up and add some leadership.”

Seahawks Canceled Colin Kaepernick Visit When QB Refused to End Protest

The Seattle Seahawks reportedly postponed a meeting with free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick because of his decision to continue protesting wholesale authentic nfl jerseys racial injustice during the national anthem.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday that the Seahawks’ decision came after Kaepernick declined to stop kneeling during the national anthem next season.

However, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the Seahawks didn’t postpone the meeting solely because Kaepernick declined to stop kneeling. Instead, they “asked for his plan moving forward on how to handle everything and there was not a firm plan.”

Per Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, the Seahawks will hold internal talks about potential backup options at quarterback, but they could still consider signing Kaepernick in the future.

After sitting out the entire 2017 season, Kaepernick held a throwing workout on a practice field in Houston last month.

Kaepernick began protesting during the national anthem during the 2016 preseason with the San Francisco 49ers. His decision to protest stemmed from not wanting to “stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he told’s Steve Wyche.

The Seahawks were one of the teams Kaepernick met with as a free agent last offseason, but NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported contract talks broke down official nfl jerseys because the two sides couldn’t agree on financial terms.

In 69 regular-season games with the 49ers from 2011 through 2016, Kaepernick threw for 12,271 yards and 72 touchdowns with 30 interceptions.

The Josh Sweat Miracle: From Leg ‘Snapped in Half’ to Fastest DE in the Draft

He lay on a hospital bed in the emergency room in September 2014, looking down at his mangled leg, and was told his career was all but finished. nfl jersey supply One freak injury had rendered Josh Sweat a never-was. An urban legend for those in Chesapeake, Virginia—nothing more.

He remembers hearing his doctor’s message loud and clear and…come again?

“He’s like, ‘Hey, man, you’re probably not going to play football again. I’m 98 percent sure. And we’re probably going to have to remove the bottom of your leg.’ And that’s how he left it,” Sweat remembers. “He said it was likely with the dislocation, especially at that angle—because the artery runs around the back.”

With one bad break on one meaningless extra-point rush, Sweat had been transformed from the “Next Jadeveon Clowney” at Oscar F. Smith High into a kid who’d need a prosthetic leg and a new career plan. His left knee was dislocated. Artery damage was expected. No blood would flow to the rest of his leg.

“The bottom of the leg would’ve died if it didn’t have enough blood,” Sweat says. “Arteries can be repaired, but if it’s damaged too much, then you have to remove it.”

Of course, he was told this before any tests had even been run. An approach that ticks him off in retrospect. He easily could’ve been scared to death, presented with this worst-case scenario. Instead, a weird thing happened: He didn’t panic. Part of it was being “stubborn,” he admits, but Sweat is also analytical to the extreme. He takes nothing at face value. As he was told he may need to have his leg amputated, wholesale authentic nfl jerseys Sweat refused to believe it.

His knee was swollen, but he could still feel his foot. Nothing was numb.

He had hope.

“I’m going to bounce back,” he told himself. “I’m not listening to him.”

Mauricio Pochettino laughs at talk of Harry Kane-Mohamed Salah goals row

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was reduced to laughter at the thought of Mohamed Salah gaining extra motivation to win the Premier League Golden Boot from Harry Kane’s bonus goal this week.

Pochettino said he nfl jersey online shop did think Kane would learn from the fallout of the decision to award the striker Tottenham’s second goal in a 2-0 win at Stoke City ahead of teammate Christian Eriksen.

But Pochettino laughed off the suggestion that Salah, who is now just four goals ahead of Kane in the Golden Boot race, will now have added motivation to end the Spurs striker’s hopes of being the first player to win three consecutive Golden Boots since Thierry Henry from 2003 to 2006.

“I don’t believe if Salah needs this situation to be inspired… come on, you make me laugh,” Pochettino said. “I respect all of their opinions. I respect the people that disagree with Harry, who do not agree with Harry, with the people who were surprised about him claiming it was his goal or not.”

The situation materialised into something of a maelstrom after Kane swore on his “daughter’s life” that Eriksen’s free kick touched his shoulder on the way into the net and he provided testimony to the Premier League Goal Accreditation Appeals Panel after Spurs appealed the decision to award the goal to Eriksen.

The panel’s decision to award Kane a 25th league goal of the season was greeted with surprise by his Golden Boot rival Salah and a number of the Liverpool forward’s teammates, while Leicester striker Jamie Vardy and former England captains Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have also questioned the call.

Pochettino, who says he was not involved in the club’s appeal, admits the furore has disappointed Kane, who did not expect the situation to snowball as it has.

“Harry is disappointed because he never wanted shop cheap nfl jerseys to create this [imbroglio],” said the Spurs boss. “It is a small or simple thing and sometimes they become bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger and you cannot stop it. That was what happened. He is going to learn a lot from this.

Barcelona’s players and coach have no answer to deserving Roma

For anyone mourning Barcelona’s limp, uncompetitive exit from the Champions League at the quarterfinal stage against Roma, there is some bitter consolation: nfl shop jerseys authentic There was no doubt whatsoever, across two matches, that the more deserving side advanced.

There will be many who argue that the elimination was due to the “Barca disease,” which is that, unless they actually win the competition, then it’s normally this stage that does them in. Since 2014, they’ve wilted four times in the last eight.

What knits those painful experiences together is the sight of a talented, ambitious team reaching — time and again — for the gear lever, yet failing to get out of first. Ripped apart in Rome. Bullied, badly, in Turin last year. Impotent in 2014 and 2016 defeats to Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

Iniesta’s contract dictates that he has until April 31 each season to inform the club whether he is automatically renewing his deal, or if he wishes to leave. When he left the pitch, close to the end and with the result already evident to anyone, who understands football or human psychology, there was at least that “Hail Mary” chance that someone would score the away goal to put Barcelona through.

But as I saw how disconsolate Iniesta was, it became clear that he walked off fully aware that these might well be the painful last minutes of a great love affair. “It’s a possibility,” he admitted when someone asked whether this might have been his final European experience with the team he has inspired for so many years.

In purely football terms, it is as heartbreaking as Roma’s absolutely admirable tactical, athletic and sporting performance is uplifting. They picked up the thread that was left dangling at the Camp Nou and which read: “This is the path to the semifinals.”

I’ve been at matches like this before. In 2004, Deportivo La Coruna cheekily took the lead at the San Siro before reigning European champions Milan cuffed them 4-1. shop nfl jerseys online Throughout the first-leg defeat, though, it was clear the Spaniards were being betrayed by the score. So it was that return game ended in a devastating 4-0 win for Depor.
